Sign-up for the TEDxCopenhagen 2011 community event is closed

Skrevet af mikkelmarius

Wow! We are totally overwhelmed by the interest in our community event on Thursday. Unfortunately that also means we have to close sign-ups now so we won’t exceed capacity. We’re sorry if you didn’t get a chance to register.

If you join the waiting list we will let you know if more places open up.

Sign-up for the TEDxCopenhagen 2011 community event is open

Skrevet af mikkelmarius

All pieces of the puzzle have finally settled – and the previously announced TEDx community event is now open for sign-ups! Here’s how it’s going to work:

On December 1st (next Thursday) at 4 PM we’re taking over Karriere Bar in the meatpacking district of Copenhagen. A veritable pop-up space for meeting and mingling with likeminded TEDsters, we’ve also scheduled 3 hours of inspiration and collective action: One TEDx speaker, two TED videos and some workshopping to inspire each other and – most importantly – collectively shape the foundation of TEDxCopenhagen 2012.

To keep our engines going the good people of Karriere Bar will be serving some reasonably priced organic sausages, warm glögg and cold drinks.

Now for the sign-up: We have room for 100 inspired TEDsters and participation is free, but we kindly ask you to sign up using this form, so we get an idea of who’s coming.

There’s also a Facebook event to share – but the official list of attendance is the list of people who have signed up using our official sign-up form so be sure to use that.

On Wedneday we’ll send out a confirmation e-mail with the final details to everyone who’ve signed up.

And by the way: We welcome monetary sponsorships of all shapes and sizes! Not to boost our personal fortunes but to give back to the TEDx community and make this event extra special with sprinkles on top. Please contact us if you feel kind and generous.

Join us at the TEDxCopenhagen 2011 community event

Yes, there WILL be a TEDx event in Copenhagen in 2011 – and you’re invited to help us make it happen!

For some months we’ve been meeting, planning the future of TEDxCopenhagen. (We being the team from last year + a couple of new and inspired TEDsters.)

Our collective ambitions haven’t diminished since the wrap up of the 2010 event at Pressens Hus. However, the new year is approaching fast and we’ve decided to go with a slightly different 2011 event than initially planned. One that’s primed to engage you – the Copenhagen TED community – in prepping for a royal grand scale edition of TEDxCopenhagen in the first half of 2012. Who’s with us?!

For now you should book the afternoon of December 1 for a TEDxCopenhagen 2011 meet-up. We’ll serve up some great TED inspiration and offer some food – for thought as well as tastebuds. Besides that we’ll ask you to reflect in groups on how TEDxCopenhagen 2012 could develop. Share your ideas and help us pave the way for a truly great event in 2012.

Sign-up process and further details about the 2011 event will be in place within the next couple of weeks. However there’s one thing you might help us with already – and a quite important one to be frank:

We still need a venue for the TEDxCopenagen 2011 community event on December 1. Are you the manager of a great place that will accommodate 150 inspired people? Or do you know just who to ask? Then please let us know!

Be sure to follow our Facebook page and/or our Twitter profile for the latest updates. They’ll be flowing steadily in the weeks to come.

Hugs from the TEDxCopenhagen Team:
Lærke Ullerup, Mette Freisner, Michael Max, Rita Christina Biza, Mikkel Marius Winther, and Ronni Tino Pedersen

TEDxØresund coming to Copenhagen

Skrevet af ullerup

Our friends from TEDxØresund are hosting an event on May 6th which you guys might find interesting. They have a great line-up and are planning some cool stuff. The theme is “We can do better” which we at TEDxCopenhagen think is a cool and ambitious theme. We have been working together with the people from TEDxØresund with the intention to start a collaboration and learn from each other. We have exchanged expectations, ideas and thoughts about how to create a fantastic TEDx event and how to get the right people engaged.

Our shared dream is to create a big event and call it TEDxNordic or TEDxScandinavia. We believe we can do better by making a big, global and really interesting event by joining forces with other dedicated TEDx organizers. And it would be so fun to gather the coolest, funniest and clever people from the Nordic countries to a couple of days focused on ‘ideas worth spreading’. Anyway, we’re still working on making that happen but there are a lot of rules and applications we need to fill out and we need to establish partnerships and get the other TEDx organizers hooked on the idea.

So until we move on with that project you can meet up with the people from TEDxØresund. Read more on their Facebook page or visit their website.

I really enjoyed TEDxCPH last week and heard some truly inspiring speakers. A week later I can still remember the big pictures but some of details are sadly beginning to fade.

In the morning I sat next to Sten (@grandtofu) who made the most awesome notes & was kind enough to email them to me.

I’ve included a selection of Sten’s notes below, I hope they help prompt your memory or simply make you smile. I especially love his “shit of mercy” …

TED Talks from yesterday

Skrevet af mikkelmarius

A TEDx event is a mix of live talks and videos from TED.com. Here are the TED videos we played at TEDxCopenhagen 2010.

Actress, athlete and model Aimee Mullins had both her legs amputated. In this talk she talks about why, with technology of today, missing your legs doesn’t necessarily mean you’re disabled.

Dan Barber is a chef who fell in love with a fish from an organic fish farm in Spain.

Harvard psychologist Dan Gilbert challenges the idea that we’ll be miserable if we don’t get what we want.

Finally, education scientist Sugata Mitra talks about a revolutionary new way of teaching children: Let them organize themselves!

Your favorite idea?

Skrevet af tveskov

Yesterdays TEDx Copenhagen was great, it was truly inspiring. Congratulations to the TEDx crew on a smooth, well organized and very pleasant conference experience. It’s always hard to tell what will “stick” after such a full day of talks and inspiration. But a few mental images pop into my head as I write this; A car with a huge health warning sticker on the side, some highly impressive abdominal-muscle-movements, the thought of gene-info wikileaking onto the net, looking out over Copenhagen towards the towering mountain in the distance, the difference between beeing satisfied and happy, the cool Copenhagen Suborbital logo with the fake latin, and last, but not least; the awesome crowd of people. Big thanks to the organizers, please be back in 2011!

What was your favorite talk or biggest takeaway from the conference?

Scary Innovation

Skrevet af tveskov

We all like to celebrate innovation and new ideas – as long as they don’t scare us or make us too uneasy or question our basic assumptions in a radical way. But real innovation is often unpredictable and potentially scary, and one of the huge emerging areas where radical new things are happening is the field of genetics. That is why I am very much looking forward to Lone Franks talk at TEDx Copenhagen.Her acclaimed book “My beautiful genome” is on my reading list for december. She says;

This book is my very personal take on personal genomics. It chronicles my meetings and interviews with leading scientists and lays out the – somtimes disquieting – discoveries I make in my own genome.

I very much enjoyed her earlier works “Klonede tigere” og “Det nye liv” which covered similar topics.

Blogger Panel: Three to See

Attending a conference is a surprise. There are some talks that you think are going to be great, and some which blow all expectations. For what its worth, here are three where I’ll be glued to my seat.

Alexander Kjerulf: Happiness at Work

Alex’s blog is full of short, simple and positive suggestions on how to make your workplace happier and more effective. In its own way it has helped me to seek out happier employment.

Mikael Colville-Andersen: Why We Shouldn’t Bike with a Helmet

As an ex-londoner living in Copenhagen, I just love biking here. I love the attitude to biking and how it fits into the everyday. I can’t wait to find out more.

Stig Severinsen: How to Hold Your Breath for 20 Minutes

Great title. I feel short of breath thinking about it. I must see this.

I’m looking forward to seeing you there. What are your top picks from the line-up?
