Revealing THE SPEAKERS : Mikkel Aarø-Hansen
Expect to start a movement
They are contradictionary, but still they have to go hand in hand. How do you merge two topics that don’t fit now, and in the future seem to drift further apart?
Mikkel Aarø-Hansen, CEO of Wonderful Copenhagen, the official tourism organization for the Capital Region of Denmark, shares his unique insights into tourism and sustainability, two topics that should be merged according to him, but at the moment are misfits.
“We all know that travelling is great: We get new experiences, new inspiration, maybe it even makes us better humans. And in many ways our stay does good for the local community: We create new jobs, help keep restaurants, hotels and museums going and perhaps even inspire new ones to open. In short, there are loads of positive things about tourism, but it also has its downfalls. For instance, travelling is in many ways a polluting activity. The question thus becomes, if we can combine sustainability and tourism? Can we use the power of tourism in helping us reach our common goal of sustainability? “
